Royal College of Art
Founded 1837. World's most influential art and design postgraduate school.
Overview
Founded as the Government School of Design to improve British manufactured goods, the RCA became the world's only entirely postgraduate art and design university. Its alumni shaped modern Britain's visual culture: David Hockney and Tracey Emin in art, Jony Ive of Apple and James Dyson in industrial design, and Ridley Scott's film generation across its photography years. The Darwin Building in Kensington and new Battersea south campus hold about 2,300 masters and doctoral students. The annual degree show launches design careers each June. Its ranking as top art and design school has held for a decade straight.
