Tokyo Institute of Technology
Founded 1881. Japan's premier pure-tech university, merged in 2024 into Institute of Science Tokyo.
Overview
Founded as the Tokyo Vocational School in 1881, Tokyo Tech became Japan's dedicated science and engineering university. In 2024 it merged with Tokyo Medical and Dental University to form the Institute of Science Tokyo, preserving both legacies. About 10,000 students study on the Ookayama campus where the earth-life science institute pursues origins-of-life research. The Centennial Hall's futuristic profile appeared in countless design retrospectives. Alumni include space program engineers and materials-science pioneers.
