KTH Royal Institute of Technology
Founded 1827. Sweden's largest technical university, from Christopher Polhem's engineering lineage.
Overview
KTH traces its spirit to Christopher Polhem's 1697 mechanical laboratory and opened formally in 1827 as the Technological Institute. It is Sweden's largest technical university, about 13,500 students on the Stockholm island campus of Ostermalm. The reactor hall, a decommissioned underground research reactor beneath campus, now hosts art and data center experiments. Alumni include engineers of Sweden's industrial houses from Ericsson to SKF. The main building's red brick and patinated copper crown Valhallavagen. KTH anchors Sweden's five-tech-cluster innovation system.
