Delft University of Technology
Founded 1842. Largest technical university in the Netherlands, royal engineering school.
Overview
King William II founded the Royal Academy to train civil engineers for the kingdom's expanding infrastructure. Delft became the Netherlands' only comprehensive technical university, now with about 27,000 students. Its aerospace faculty is Europe's largest, and the wind tunnels test scale aircraft daily. Simon Stevin's legacy names campus buildings, and the library's grass roof is a national architecture icon. Delft Blue ceramics town frames the canals around campus.
