University of British Columbia
Founded 1908. Pacific coast campus on Point Grey, western Canada's research leader.
Overview
Established by provincial act in 1908, UBC opened its doors in 1915 and moved to its Point Grey peninsula campus in 1925, after students staged the Great Trek of 1922 to demand permanent buildings. The campus is bordered by forest and beaches above the Pacific. Three Canadian prime ministers studied at UBC: John Turner, Kim Campbell and Justin Trudeau. The campus hosts the TRIUMF particle accelerator centre and the Museum of Anthropology, and a second campus operates in Kelowna in the Okanagan Valley. It ranks among the top three universities in Canada.
