Overview
Lawrence Berk founded Schillinger House in 1945 to teach modern arranging his own way; it became Berklee and grew into the largest independent music college in the world. Its curriculum covers performance, production, film scoring, and music business for about 7,000 students. Quincy Jones was among the first black students and later received an honorary doctorate; Esperanza Spalding, John Mayer, and Aerosmith's members studied here. Alumni hold dozens of Grammy awards across decades.
