Georgia Institute of Technology
Founded 1885. The South's engineering engine, largest voluntary co-op program in America.
Overview
Founded to rebuild the postbellum South's industrial base, Georgia Tech opened with 84 students and now enrolls about 45,000 across Atlanta and satellite campuses. Its cooperative education program, alternating semesters of work and study, is the largest voluntary one in the United States. The invention studio lets any student prototype hardware 24 hours a day. Jimmy Carter studied here briefly, and countless aerospace and logistics executives graduated. Bobby Dodd Stadium is the oldest on-campus stadium in the FBS. Tech Tower's T theft tradition ranks among campus pranks' legends.
