Overview

Established with UNESCO and Soviet collaboration as the second IIT, Bombay moved to Powai's lakeside campus in 1959. The IIT joint entrance exam ranks among the world's most selective, with admission rates below two percent. Its graduates lead global technology firms: Nandan Nilekani of Infosys among them, and Parag Agrawal of Twitter lineage. About 17,000 students study engineering, sciences, and management. Mood Indigo, Asia's largest college cultural festival by participation, fills December nights. Research reactors and the industrial design centre share the arboreal campus.
